NOISE. Please attempt to keep noise to a minimum both inside and outside the library building. Loud talk or laughter, radios, cell phones and all excessively audible sounds can be particularly irritating to people who are attempting to work. If you are creating a disturbance, you will be asked to desist or to leave the area. Please be courteous and considerate of others

NO FOOD OR DRINK IS PERMITTED IN THE LIBRARY AT ANY TIME. NO EXCEPTIONS! No food or drink is permitted in library classrooms. The library has a serious problem with rodents and insects that can only be improved by your full cooperation. Please help us. If you are observed with either food or drink in your possession, you will be asked to either dispose of it in an appropriate manner or to exit the building. University Police will assist us in enforcing the NO FOOD/NO DRINK policy, if necessary.

CHANGE MACHINES are located in the vending machine area of the Student Center, directly across the street from the Library on the West Campus. No cash is kept in the library. Please do not ask the staff to make change.

COPY MACHINES. There are four public use machines in the library located on the first floor in room 141. Machines are both coin and card operated.  Your ID card will also serve as your copy card, or Vend Cards may be purchased from the Vend Card vending machine in Room 141.

PRINTING FROM PUBLIC WORKSTATIONS.  There are two printers available for printing from the public workstations.  Prints are $.11 per page/side.  New College ID cards or Vend Cards are required to pay for printing.

Microform MachinesMICROFORM READER/PRINTERS. The library maintains coin and card-operated microfilm and microfiche reader/printers for use in copying from fiche and film. The Reference staff can assist you in the use of these machines.

COPY MACHINE / VENDCARD PROBLEMS. Please report copy machine problems to the Reference Staff. The Reference Staff can usually resolve simple problems.  Since we keep no cash in the building, we cannot refund money lost to a malfunctioning machine. Please report loss of money to the Reference staff. Arrangements will be made with the copy machine vendor to obtain reimbursement for your loss.

GROUP STUDY ROOMS. Two Group Study Rooms (located on the first floor) are available to students who need to work together as a group. The rooms are assigned on a "first come/first serve" basis, have a 3-hour use limit and may be used by a minimum of three people. These rooms will comfortably accommodate six people. Please keep in mind that the group study rooms are not soundproof. No food or drink is permitted. The reference staff can answer any questions you may have about the Group Study Rooms.

STUDENT LIBRARY CARRELS are assigned to thesis students who are actively in the process of writing dissertations and these.  Library carrel application forms are available in the Library Administration Office, Room 201, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. A limited number of assigned student carrels are available each year. Because carrels are at a premium, we ask that you not request a carrel unless you fully intend to use it. Food and drink are not permitted in the carrels and, if found, will automatically result in revocation or carrel privileges. Moving, damaging, renumbering, defacing, or otherwise changing carrels may result in having carrel privileges revoked.

FACULTY LIBRARY CARRELS are assigned to full-time New College faculty. These locked carrels are few in number and are in high demand making a waiting list an unfortunate necessity. The faculty member to whom the carrel is assigned is responsible for the proper use of the carrel and must comply with the fire safety regulations.

LIBRARY LOCKERS A limited number of library lockers are available to be assigned to currently enrolled students. Students should be prepared to present a validated New College ID at the time the request is placed. Lockers are assigned through the Library Administration office, Room 201.

TELEPHONES 1) An EMERGENCY BLUE LIGHT TELEPHONE is located outside the library at the northwest corner of the building. 2) A Courtesy Telephone is located on the counter opposite the Circulation desk for use in conducting University business, including toll-free calling to all USF campuses.  Instructions for using this telephone and a campus telephone directory are kept beside the phone. Reference and Circulation telephones are business phones and may not be used for personal calls. 3) A pay telephone is located by exiting the library, turn left and go to the end of the corridor.

PARKING LOTS are located on the on the north and south sides of the library. A current USF parking permit is required to use these lots, except for five designated Visitor parking spaces in the north lot. When all "Visitor" places are filled, a temporary parking permit may be obtained from Parking Services in the University Police office, Viking 121 on the West Campus. Parking in marked reserved "Library Staff Only" spaces, even with a valid USF parking permit, will result in a parking fine.

LOST AND FOUND is located at the Circulation Desk. Unclaimed articles are sent to Police Services for safekeeping.

SIGNS AND NOTICES. Please DO NOT post any signs or notices on the walls, doors, windows, ground, or furniture either inside or outside the library building. Offending items will be removed immediately. Bulletin boards for posting signs/notices are available in the porticos at the entrance/exit. Please remove dated material in a timely manner to provide space for others. Small-size notices of university-related activities will be posted on interior library bulletin boards, space permitting. Please present notices you would like to have posted to the interior bulletin boards to the Reference Office. Items that are posted to interior bulletin boards without permission will be removed.
